Max grew up in the Washington, D.C., area. He joined the Peace Corps right out of college, graduating from The College of William and Mary with a major in Economics and a minor in Global Public Health. Since joining the Peace Corps and enrolling in the dual-language program, Max has become a polyglot able to speak in English, Russian, Macedonian, and Albanian. His passion for learning languages continues, and he plans to take Turkish classes next year.

Jeff: Let’s start by telling me a little about yourself. What makes you tick, man?

Max: I’m a pretty simple guy. I’m 23 years old and grew up in Washington, DC. Obviously, I’m a Peace Corps volunteer now. It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do — also a big soccer player and music fan.

Jeff: Who’s your favorite band?

Max: Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of this band called Her’s. They play bedroom-pop music or surfer rock. There are so many very niche-specific genres now.

Jeff: Like the Beach Boys?

Max: They’re like a modern version of Beach Boys. I’ve been listening to them a lot even though they’re not around anymore. They released two or three albums, and then after that, they passed away.
